The French plait is a classic, and from your ‘beauty salon’ in the school playground to your wedding day, it’s served you well. Whether loose and a little boho or tighter and neat, it looks pretty and effortless. Bonus points for being workable with many different hair lengths! If you haven’t already mastered the French plait, make this summer the summer you learn- there are written and video tutorials all over the internet, so be sure to check one out!
Sometimes hair ties are just unsightly, and particularly for a formal occasion, we want them out of the way. The wraparound pony tail is perfect for managing long hair on a hot day, and looking sophisticated in the process. Simply remove an inch-wide section of your hair (I prefer to take from the bottom) and tie the rest up as usual. Then, take the section, wrap it around your hair tie and keep it in place with a tactically placed bobby pin. Ariana Grande- eat your heart out!
Somehow this cute number is even easier than a regular plait, and you’ll kick yourself if you don’t already know how to do it. It’s a simple matter of taking two (not even three!) pieces of hair, taking a wee section from the far side of one section, and passing it to the other. That’s it! Now you can go about your life rocking some serious Elsa vibes.
The Short-haired Cheater:
It can often feel that life with short hair, whilst being totally hassle-free, is a little dull. If your hair is too short for an updo, but you want to recreate the look and go for a bit of a change, just backcomb your longer sections a little and loosely pin them down. Effortless and classy.
Top-knots seem to be everywhere right now, which is hardly surprising when such a simple look can make such a statement. Just tie your hair in a high ponytail and then tease towards the base. Once the pony tail is thick and teased the whole way along, wrap around the base and either hold it in place with bobby pins, or stealthily tuck it in to your hair tie.
